Ponyo as a fish

Ponyo starts out as a small (but slightly larger than her siblings) red goldfish with a white belly. She has a human head with light skin and red hair.

Human[]

Throughout the first half of the film, Ponyo begins to transform from a fish into a human, where she grows in height and develops skinny orange arms and legs similar to a frog/chicken’s. They eventually develop into human limbs.

Once she fully transforms into a human, she takes the form of a five-year-old girl with red hair wearing a red puff sleeve dress and white puffy bloomers.

Personality[]

Like most 5-year-old's, Ponyo is a very happy and rambunctious little girl. Unlike her father, who is very apprehensive about the surface world, Ponyo is very curious about it and finds everything about surface-life fascinating, to the point where she wants to become human herself. Ham is her favorite food and she absolutely loves her friend Sôsuke.

However, that does not mean Ponyo loves everything about everything. Ponyo is stubborn and prone to throwing tantrums when she does not get her way, such as when her father is attempting to talk her out of becoming human, or when someone speaks poorly of her, such as when one of Sôsuke's classmates called her an ugly fish.
